Police are investigating a homicide that happened in daylight near a busy street in southwest Houston.
Detectives said the fatal altercation started with an argument between the victim and another person at an apartment complex near South Gessner and Braeswood.
When 18-year-old Elijah Williams started to leave, police said he was shot twice in the upper chest.
Williams then crossed South Gessner Road and collapsed in front of a driveway between two apartment complexes. He died at the scene.
Dozens of neighbors gathered outside after hearing the gunshots.
"It's really sad," said resident Shirley Sheperd. "Too many of our children are dying from gunshot wounds."
Sheperd lost her 25-year-old son to gun shots two years ago. Saturday's incident was just another scene she wishes she didn't have to see.
"A lot of times bullets don't have a name on them," said HPD officer Jeffrey Rexroad. "They start winging them at people and they can go anywhere."
Police are also looking into whether or not the shooting may be gang-related.
Houston police describe the shooter only as a black male.
