Man killed during shootout in Jack in the Box parking lot

HOUSTON – An argument in the parking lot of an east Houston restaurant late Sunday night led to a shootout that killed a man, according to police.

The shooting happened about 11:30 p.m. at the Jack in the Box restaurant near the intersection of Federal Road and Interstate 10, also known as the East Freeway.

Houston police said two groups of people got into a fight, which escalated to an exchange of gunfire in the parking lot.

A man, identified as 22-year-old Miguel Angel Cid, of Houston, was taken to a local hospital, where he died, police said.

Investigators said employees and customers were a few feet away when the shooting happened.

“We heard the shots. That's about it," said an employee of the restaurant, who did not want to be identified. "We couldn't do anything. Everybody rushed to the back. A witness came in here yelling at us, talking about, 'He's on the floor.'"

Police said witnesses told investigators that there was an exchange of gunfire inside a vehicle in the parking lot. Cid was pushed out of the vehicle, and continued firing at it as it left the scene. Cid collapsed, but was picked up by a vehicle driven by his brother and taken to a local hospital.

It was not immediately clear what started the fight.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
