HOUSTON -

One man was killed and another was hospitalized after a double shooting in southwest Houston Friday night.

Just after 10:30 p.m., police were called to a home in the 6100 block of Havendale Street.

Detectives said the two victims were sitting in a car when someone approached on foot and shot them.

Houston police said 21-year-old Jamarcus Owens died at the scene. The other victim, a 20-year-old man, was rushed to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital for a gunshot wound. He was later released.

Detectives have interviewed the victim to see if he can help them track down the shooter.

Neighbors reported hearing gunshots, but no one saw the suspects or a getaway vehicle.

Detectives said many homes in this neighborhood have surveillance cameras. They are hoping one of the cameras captured video of the shooting and can provide clues about the the gunman.

As for a motive, detectives said they talked to the parents of one of the victims who lives in the neighborhood. Those parents said they do not know why the men were targeted.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call the HPD Homicide Division or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
