MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas - A man is dead after being shot by deputy constables in Montgomery County.
A spokesperson with the Montgomery County Precinct Four Constable's Office said deputies went to the home near Highway 242 and Lexington around 2 a.m. Sunday to serve a felony warrant. A woman who came to the door allowed the officers into the home.
"They said, 'We're looking for someone, we know he's here,'" said the resident, who asked to remain anonymous.
According to investigators, as deputies made contact with the suspect, the man pulled out a gun and pointed it toward deputies. That's when the deputies opened fire, killing the man.
The female resident witnessed the shooting. She said the suspect who died was her friend's boyfriend, and that her friend had been staying at the home for the last few weeks but her boyfriend had only been staying there for the last few days.
"I didn't know he had a gun," the woman said. "He was staying with us (and) I didn't know he had a gun. When he opened the door, he picked up a gun and pointed it right at the cop."
The woman told Local 2 she still doesn't know what kind of warrant the deputies were serving in the middle of the night. She said she believes the suspect may have killed the deputies if they hadn't shot him first.
"You don't pick up a gun and point it at somebody for nothing," she said.
The man who died has not yet been identified. Multiple agencies, including the Texas Rangers, are investigating.
