A woman running home from Memorial Park said a man was following her until she took action.
The woman said she was running at about 5:45 a.m. Tuesday when she said the man followed her on Crestwood on the east side of Memorial Park. She said he was driving a small SUV. She told Local 2 that she thought he would pull over but did not.
She posted her experience on Facebook to warn other women because she says he was doing it deliberately. She told Local 2 that she was convinced he was following her.
The woman said, "I'm not a fast runner and so I kept my pace and he would drive up and then kind of lag behind and then drive up, and I could tell that the lights would just get brighter and then dim away and brighter."
She said she realized she had one option. She said she stopped, turned around and faced the driver head on. She said once they made eye contact, the man drove away.
The woman said she when she called the Houston Police to notify them about what happened, they said they would increase patrols in the neighborhood near the park.
Police said it's always best to be aware of your surroundings. Anyone who encounters a stranger should not hesitate to report anything that appears suspicious. Police were checking to see if there are any similar reports near the park.
