HOUSTON -

A man is in the hospital after a major crash in southwest Houston.    

It happened around 2 a.m. Thursday at West Airport and Beltway 8.

Investigators said the man was driving south on the feeder road when he lost control and slammed into a stop light pole at the intersection.

The car burst into flames but firefighters were able to get the man out.

Officials said the victim was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in serious condition.

Police are investigating to determine if alcohol played a role in the crash.
