Man hits clerk during convenience store robbery

BAYTOWN, Texas – Police need help identifying and finding a man who robbed a Baytown convenience store at gunpoint.

Baytown police said the hold-up happened at Snack Time Food Mart in the 3300 block of Decker Drive near Rollingbrook about 10 p.m. on Tuesday.

Detectives said a man walked in, pointed a gun at a clerk and demanded cash. He hit the clerk in the face twice before running toward an apartment complex, investigators said.

Vanesa Sorto lives at Cypress Bend apartments across the street and saw police cars around the store.

"We saw shining lights. We look through the window and we see cops everywhere in all directions shining lights towards the bridge," said Sorto.

Residents who live near the complex said they'll be more cautious, especially at night.

"I'm scared because … when it gets dark it has been a little crazy around here," said Sorto.

The robbery was caught on camera, but police have not released the surveillance video yet.

A detailed description of the robber has not been released, but officials said he was last seen wearing a camouflage jacket and a bandana over his face.

Anyone with information is asked to call Baytown Crime Stoppers at 281-427-8477.
