HOUSTON -

Police are investigating the death of a man who was hit by a car on the North Loop.

Witnesses told police a 26-year-old man was standing in the main lanes of the North Loop East around 10 p.m. Friday waving at traffic and stepping in front of vehicles. While numerous vehicles swerved to avoid hitting him, a gray Jeep Cherokee hit the man.

The victim died at the scene. 

Police said the driver of the Cherokee did not show any signs of intoxication and was released.

The victim's name has not been released.

Houston police said their investigation continues.
