A deadly hit-and-run crash closed part of Kuykendahl Road in north Harris County early Thursday morning.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said a red sedan with two men inside was heading south on Kuykendahl just after midnight when a man was crossing the road near the intersection of Cypress Landing.

The pedestrian was hit by the car.

"His body actually went into the windshield," said Sgt. S Wolverton with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "He rode on top of the car for two or three hundred yards."

The man died at the scene.

Wolverton said both men in the car jumped out and ran into a nearby wooded area.

Deputies set up a perimeter, and with the help of K-9 officers were able to capture one of the men.

"We did get one male in custody -- he was the driver," Wolverton said.

Meanwhile, the passenger was not caught.

Detectives said the driver of the car was drunk at the time of the crash and will be charged with DWI and failure to stop and render aid.

The name of the victim was not immediately released.
