Man found dead in northeast Houston ditch

HOUSTON – Officers went to a northeast Houston street to investigate a crash and found out that it was really a homicide scene.

Houston police said they were called out to Peachtree near Weaver Road about 7:30 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found a pickup truck crashed on the left side of the road, with its engine still running.

Detectives said a body was found in a ditch on the right side of the road.

"They rolled the body to do first aid and discovered he had possible gunshot wounds or stab wounds," Officer Warren Meeler said. "Residents reported hearing two gunshots."

Detectives said they think the slaying happened on the street and not inside the pickup truck.

"As far as I can tell, there isn't any blood in the truck," Meeler said.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will determine the man's identity and how he died.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
