HOUSTON – A woman walking along the banks of Sims Bayou made a gruesome discovery Sunday afternoon.
Investigators said the woman spotted the lifeless body of a man floating on the surface of the water, directly below the Gulf Freeway near Howard Street.
Detectives with the Houston Police Department's Homicide Unit said there are no signs of trauma to the body, so it's unclear if the man was murdered, committed suicide, or simply fell into the bayou and drowned.
"There are signs of decomposition, so it's hard to tell how long the body has been there," said Officer Mark Coleman, with the Houston Police Department.
Investigators said an autopsy is scheduled to help identify the man and determine cause of death.
No other information has been provided.
