16-year-old boy shot in head, teen questioned

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A 16-year-old boy is brain dead after investigators said another teen shot him in the head Saturday.

"My niece called me frantically crying on the phone to come get her and I said what's wrong and she was so shaken she couldn't even tell me. She just said, 'Please come get me,'" said Christine Hoff.

Hoff's niece and nephew were inside the home on Yaupon Trail when shots rang out just after 3 p.m. Saturday and a 16-year-old boy was the victim.

"Then I saw them pulling out a boy with a gunshot wound in his head," Hoff said.

Just before, deputies said another teen shot him.

"They were the only two in the room at the time of the shooting and at this point the fact that he fled the scene with a gun would tend to rule out that it was an accident," said Ben Beall with Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies found the accused shooter hours later at his grandmother's home. They also discovered the gun in a storm drain.

Deputies interviewed several other teenagers who were inside the home.

"This is kind of the weekend hangout spot where they just come and relax, watch movies, do whatever teenagers do," Hoff said.

But Saturday, it was far from innocent teenage fun.

"I'm quite shaken. It's nerve-wrecking," she said.

Officials said the teens involved attend Atascocita High School. Investigators do not have a motive.
