Driver killed, pregnant passenger injured after chase ends in crash

HOUSTON – A man was killed and a pregnant woman was injured after leading deputies on a chase which ended in north Harris County early Friday.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, a deputy witnessed a Chevy Impala making an illegal left turn from Kuykendahl to Ella round 12:30 a.m.

The deputy attempted to pull the car over, but the driver refused to stop.  The Chevy driver floored it, leading the deputy on a short chase.

As the suspect was traveling southbound on Ella near North Rankin, he hit a bump in the road, lost control, skid off the median and slammed into a large tree.  The driver was ejected and died at the scene.

The pregnant passenger in the front seat was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in stable condition.  Another man in the back seat was transported by ground ambulance to Memorial Hermann in stable condition.

Deputies said there were several small bags of marijuana found in the car.
