Man drowns in San Jacinto River

HOUSTON – Harris County deputies are investigating a drowning in the San Jacinto River.

Investigators said it happened when the 23-year-old man was swimming with friends at the marina near Gulf Pump Road around 6:30 p.m.

Deputies said the man went under water and never came back up. His friends called 911.

The victim's body was later recovered down the river under the Highway 90 bridge about an hour later.

An autopsy is now underway to determine a cause of death. His identity has not yet been released.
