Man dies after jumping from moving truck on Eastex Freeway

Houston police say two brothers were headed home after leaving a party when things took a deadly turn.

This all unfolded around 2 a.m. Tuesday on the Eastex Freeway just north of Rankin Road.

"The driver of the vehicle at some point makes statements to his brother. He jumped out of the vehicle, he opened the door and jumped out of the [moving] vehicle onto the mainlines of the freeway," said Sgt. JD Rossman with the Houston Police Department.

Investigators believe the 44-year-old man was having issues with his marriage and that may have been what he was talking about seconds before he jumped out of the truck.

Police say after that happened, the surviving passenger moved over to the driver seat to try and regain control of the truck and was able to pull it over.

"The brother came back to the scene, he pulled his brother from the mainlines back onto the shoulder. He wasn't breathing. He was deceased at the scene," Rossman said.

The brother told police that the victim had been drinking.

The names of those involved were not immediately released.

No charges have been filed in this case and police said there are no known witnesses.
