Man dies after found hurt in parking lot

GALVESTON, Texas – A man died after he was found hurt in the parking lot of his Galveston bakery, investigators said.

Galveston police said an officer was patrolling the 3800 block of Avenue J about 2 a.m. on Saturday and found Juan Navarro, 59, lying in the parking lot of Navarro Bakery.

Navarro suffered head trauma and was rushed to a hospital, where he died several hours later, investigators said.

Detectives said Navarro's vehicle, a Lexus SUV, was missing from the parking lot. It was found near the intersection of 37th and Avenue M on Sunday and towed to the Galveston Police Department to be processed for evidence.

Relatives said Navarro opened the bakery six years ago. It was his dream come true.

"He started in his house," said Juan Pablo Lopez, Navarro's nephew. "Came from the bottom like everyone does. That was his passion. His dream he always talked about ... 'One day I'm going to open my bakery.'"

Anyone with information about Navarro's death is asked to call Galveston police at 409-765-3370.
