Houston police said on Sunday, Jones went to an apartment in the 1400 block of West Gulf Bank where he had been living, but he had been kicked out a few days earlier.  He got into an argument with one of the residents.  Both the resident and Jones punched each other and Jones left the apartment, detectives said.

Later that night, Jones returned to the apartment again.  He was armed with a hammer and went into the apartment uninvited, said police.  He hit the same resident in the head with the hammer, investigators said.  The resident put Jones in a choke hold, Jones began to cough and the resident released the choke hold and told a witness in the apartment to call 911.

Paramedics arrived on the scene, and rushed Jones to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
