"A car was traveling eastbound on Alief Clodine, and for unknown reasons seems to have lost control and struck a pole," said Sgt. J.R. Roberts with the Houston Police Department.

The 21-year-old driver, who police say was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene.

Police said they are still not sure exactly what happened in the moments before the crash, but did say it's clear there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the accident.

A witness told police the victim was speeding before the crash.
