Man charged with trespassing after walking into Aldine ISD elementary school

HOUSTON – A man has been charged with trespassing after police said he walked into an Aldine ISD elementary school.

Houston Academy principal Ruby Allen sent a letter home to parents Wednesday afternoon to let them know about the incident. The school is located at 8103 Carver Road in north Houston.

According to Allen, around 1pm Wednesday, a man walked through the school's front door, entered a classroom and said there was someone who was after him.

Officials said the school was immediately locked down and Aldine ISD police were alerted.

"It was scary. We were all under that table and we thought it was the end for us, but we were all in a group and praying to God he would keep us safe," said Mateo Garcia, a fifth grad student at the school.

Garcia's mother says she is concerned that security isn't as tight as it should be on the campus.

"I think about what could have happened and my tears start rolling down my cheek," said Aide Garcia. "To think something like that could happen to your kid."

The suspect, later identified as Lewis Robinson, was detained and questioned by police. He has been charged with criminal trespassing.

"Our focus is to ensure a safe and secure learning environment for our students and staff," wrote Allen.

Parents with questions concerning the incident should call Principal Allen at 281-878-7745.

"I think they did an excellent job. It's all about the safety of the kids that's our first concern," said Loretta Applin, who works at the school.

Aldine ISD officials declined to comment on camera.

A judge set Robinson's bond at 15,000. He is expected to appear in court next week.

Court records show Robinson has previous charges of aggravated robbery and theft.
