Man charged with capital murder is arrested

HOUSTON – A 20-year-old man charged with capital murder was arrested on Tuesday.

Willie Scott was charged with capital murder for shooting Dedrick Coleman to death on Oct. 23, 2015,
during a robbery at 4700 Wenda St.

The mother of Coleman's child said Coleman left their apartment about an hour before he was shot to death. He left with $1,000 that was a gift from the adoptive parents of their child, according to court records.

The woman said she heard a single gunshot and looked out the window and saw a man rifling through Coleman's pockets while he was lying on the ground on the day of the shooting, court records say.

Scott was arrested during a traffic stop for failure to ID and for a probation violation.

During an interview with investigators, Scott said he shot Coleman during a robbery, according to court records.

He said he and two others followed Coleman after a drug deal, knowing he had a large amount of cash, court record indicate.

Scott said he pointed a gun at Coleman during the robbery and took several items from him, including his wallet and phone. Scott then said Coleman began wrestling with and he shot him during the fight, according to court documents.

Scott was overcome with emotion when he saw a picture of Coleman, according to court records.
