Man charged with arson after fire at estranged wife's house

Fire started near garage; vehicles torched

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Harris County deputy constables are searching for a man they believe intentionally started a fire at his estranged wife's home early Friday.

The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office has charged Danny Byrd with first-degree arson. Officials said Byrd has an open warrant for his arrest and is believed to be in Waco.

The Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department responded to a house fire on Valebluff Lane and Hollygate Lane around midnight. Firefighters arrived to find the garage fully engulfed in flames. The fire burned through the garage, torching the vehicles inside, and flames were inching up to the top floor.

The woman got out safely and firefighters managed to bring the fire under control.

After the fire was tapped out, a Harris County Fire Marshal's Office K-9 detected an accelerant that was used to spark the fire. The fire had been started near the garage.

Deputies said the woman's estranged husband had made previous threats to set the house on fire.

One firefighter was treated at the scene for fatigue.

Anyone with information on Byrd's whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
