Man charged in fatal DUI crash

Adrian Paul Mills, 38, charged with intoxication manslaughter

GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas – A man has been charged in connection with a crash that killed one man and left that man's wife injured.

Police said Adrian Paul Mills, 38, was driving east in his Infinity Q50 SUV on Seawall Boulevard Saturday afternoon when he made an abrupt U-turn, striking the side of a Toyota minivan with 72-year-old Ashley Boyd and his wife Alice Boyd.

"They were just awesome people; just good, wholesome people, church-going, spiritual people," said Dion Troner.

Troner said the Boyds were their role models in life.

"It's just completely senseless what happened," Troner said.

Galveston police said Ashley Boyd was killed at the scene of the accident in the 9500 block of Seawall Boulevard and his wife Alice Boyd had to be rushed to The University Of Texas Medical Branch Hospital.

Now, a sign on the front lawn of the Boyd's family home in Humble reads, "Wake Up America Pray."

Troner and her neighbors in Humble said they will be praying for Alice Boyd, who was listed in stable condition as of late Sunday night.

Troner said what hurts the most is thinking of Alice Boyd having to go on without her loving husband.

"Not only is Ashley gone, which we can't replace, but now Alice has to -- this is going to be a loss for her, she has to go on without him," Troner said.

Mills was booked into the Galveston County Jail just before noon Sunday. He is being charged with one count of intoxication manslaughter -- a $100,000 bond -- and one count of intoxication assault -- a $50,000 bond.
