Man charged in beating of popular Tejano singer
Jared Avila charged with assault
After a five month investigation, a man has been charged in the beating of the lead singer of Grammy-award winning Tejano group La Mafia.
Jared Avila was charged with assault after he was picked out of a photo line up. Avila is accused of beating Oscar De La Rosa outside a Houston bar in May.
According to investigators, De La Rosa and a friend were leaving Blur Bar when a man who was kicked out of the bar earlier attacked them.
The man struck De La Rosa in the head several times before fleeing the scene, Houston Police said.
Investigators said the man was upset because De La Rosa did not want to take a picture with him or sign an autograph.
According to La Mafia's Facebook page, De La Rosa was rushed to Memorial Hermann Hospital and "suffered severe face lacerations and possible damage to his right eye."
Avila was arrested and has already posted bail.
