GALVESTON, Texas -

Galveston police made an arrest after receiving calls about a woman hanging out of a window of a moving car and yelling for help.

The incident happened at 5:30 p.m Sunday. The Galveston Police Department received several calls from witnesses who saw a blue Nissan Xterra driving erratically near the 1800 block of Seawall Boulevard. The witnesses attempted to provide directions for officers. After nearly an hour of searching, police said they located and detained the car on the causeway.

Police said the driver, Pablo Nunez, 27, was involved in an altercation with the woman in the parking lot of the Gaido's Hotel. Police said the woman was Nunez's girlfriend.

Investigators said Nunez hit the woman in the head with a pistol during the altercation. According to police, the pair then got into the car, along with the woman's young child, and left the hotel. That's when witnesses began calling police.

Police said when they detained Nunez on the causeway, they also found a handgun in the car, along with a large amount of codeine and a baggie of marijuana.

The woman was taken to the hospital to be treated for her injuries.

Nunez was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and unlawfully carrying a weapon.
