The deputy approached the man to question him, and that's when she said he lunged at her. She then attempted to detain the man, but deputies say he jumped onto the hood of her patrol car, damaging the vehicle body and windshield.

She then attempted to detain him again, when authorities say he elbowed her in the face.

Officials say they arrested Waldo Alexander Delafuente, of Houston. Delafuente was eventually detained and transported to Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital for treatment of pepper spray deployment and evaluation, then released.

Deputies say they believe Delafuente, 19, was under the influence of an unknown substance. He is charged with assault on a police officer and felony criminal mischief.

The deputy was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and released.
