A 30-year-old man was flown to a local hospital after being bitten by a rattle snake, according to Surfside Beach Police.

Police say the man was kayaking in marsh area on bayside around 5:30 p.m. Friday, when he got out of his kayak to empty the water out.

According to police, as the man stepped into the marsh, a rattlesnake  bit on the man's right ankle.

Police say the man was in a lot of pain, but was in stable condition.

The man is recovering at Memorial Hermann Hospital.

The man's name has not been released.
