DWI suspect leads deputies on high-speed chase

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A man was arrested on Dec. 7, after evading police in a vehicle while intoxicated.

A deputy with Constable Mark Herman’s Office observed a vehicle traveling in the 26800 block of Cypresswood Drive in North Harris County. The vehicle was being operated on a public roadway in violation of the Texas Transportation Code and the deputy initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to stop and fled from the deputy for 11 miles and reaching speeds of 80 mph a news release from the Harris County constable reported.

The release said the vehicle led deputies down Cypresswood Drive, Aldine Westfield Road, Treaschwig Road and several smaller side streets in the area before stopping in the 2000 block of Rustling Trees Way. The suspect left the vehicle and ran into a residence with constable deputies giving chase. The driver was taken into custody inside the residence without incident.

"The driver was identified as 40-year-old Darrell Armstrong. Armstrong was arrested, charged with felony evading in a motor vehicle and felony driving while intoxicated, due to previous DWI convictions," Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman said. 

Armstrong was booked into the Harris County jail. His bond was set at $20,000 for the felony DWI and $10,000 for the felony evading in a motor vehicle out of the 179th District Court the release said.
