Man accused of stealing SUV at gun point during test drive

HOUSTON – A man is accused of stealing an SUV at gun point while on a test drive in Montrose.

Ryan Lambert, 32, was arrested Thursday and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.  According to Houston police, Lambert pulled a gun on an employee of Downtown Radiator & Auto Repair while he accompanied Lambert on a test drive.

Court records indicate the employee got out of the SUV after Lambert allegedly put the gun to his head and threatened his life.

"When the employee came back, it was a bad feeling," shop owner Manuel Garcia said.  "It could've been worse.  It could've been getting body bags out.  Fortunately, everything worked out.  Not perfectly but nobody got hurt."

Lambert quickly stripped the vehicle of its stereo system and pawned it.  But Lambert was soon caught after a man overheard Lambert bragging about the heist at a nearby bar.

Ryan Lambert, who has a long criminal history, was out on bond for another alleged carjacking in February.
