HOUSTON -

An Alvin man is accused of exchanging messages of a sexual nature with an underage girl.

Court documents state the mother of the 14-year-old girl called police after she ran away from home with 19-year-old Christopher Betancourt. The mother told police she did not approve of their relationship.

Webster police began an investigation and were told by the girl that Betancourt was her boyfriend and that they communicated via mobile phone and through Facebook. The girl also told police Betancourt was previously the boyfriend of one of her classmates, who was 13 years old at the time.

Investigators say the girl denied having sexual contact with Betancourt, but told them she and Betancourt exchanged nude photos of each other. Webster police say they were never able to find those alleged photos.

During an interview with Betancourt, investigators say he admitted that he had been in a relationship with the girl and chatted with her via Facebook, but believed she was 15 years old. According to Webster police, Betancourt had communicated with other underage girls as well.

Once such exchange between this victim, who was 13 years old at the time, and Betancourt took place on May 1, 2013, court documents state.

Betancourt is charged with online solicitation of a minor. His bond was set at $10,000.
