Man accused of severely beating girlfriend's son with belt

Boy disciplined for lying about mp3 player

NASSAU BAY, Texas – Nassau Bay police arrested a man investigators said beat his girlfriend's son with a belt.

The incident happened on April 23, police said.

According to court documents, Rodney Dykes, 49, beat struck his girlfriend's 12-year-old son's leg multiple times with a belt to discipline him for lying about a mp3 player.

Investigators said the boy also had large circular bruising consistent with a fist strike.

Dykes was previously convicted of delivery of a controlled substance on November 18, 1987.

He was later convicted of burglary of a habitation on July 6, 1999.
