Houston firefighters said a fire at an apartment in the 1400 block of Scharpe in southeast Houston on Aug. 29 was intentionally set. Curtains and a couch in the apartment were lit on fire, officials said.

Detectives said Arriaga and the man renting the apartment had ended their relationship about a week before the fire. The ex-boyfriend said he had been having trouble with Arriaga all day on Aug. 29, officials said.

Investigators said there were notes written on a sheet in the bedroom. Detectives said one read, "I never cheated on you" and the other stated, "I only want u sorry I have to do this." It was signed "David," officials said.

The couple who owns the apartment said they saw Arriaga jump from the apartment when the fire started, but he never told them there was a fire, detectives said.

The ex-boyfriend said Arriaga tried to apologize to him several times via Facebook, investigators said.
