FBI officials said Smith held up the Woodforest Bank inside the Walmart in the 13700 block of the East Freeway near Freeport on Monday afternoon.

Detectives said Smith wore a fake beard and handed tellers a threatening note demanding cash.

Smith left the store in a green minivan, officials said. He used that vehicle to lead Houston police on a short chase that ended in a crash on Mykawa near Dixie in southeast Houston, investigators said.

Cash stolen from the bank was found in the minivan, detectives said.

Investigators said they were working to determine if Smith was involved in any other bank robberies. The FBI said Smith's mug shot would not be released because of that investigation.

Smith's criminal history includes several robbery charges.
