Man accused of robbing 5-year-old

Jerrome Dominick accused of robbing child in Cuney Park

GALVESTON, Texas – A man has been accused of robbing a 5-year-old boy.

Jerrome Dominick, 22, has been charged with second-degree felony robbery.

Galveston police said the boy was playing near the swings in Cuney Park in the 700 block of 41st Street when Dominick approached him about 8 p.m. Saturday.

"(Dominick) pushed the little kid down," witness Muntrazian Martin said. "The little kid started crying and (Dominick) took his phone and took off running."

Martin said he's run into Dominick before. Martin said Dominick previously bullied his 14-year-old sister.

Police said Dominick ran across the street to the Sandpiper Cove Apartments after the robbery. Lt. Michael Gray said the two blocks the apartment complex occupies are the most dangerous in the city.

"It's probably the highest crime area that we have," Gray said.

Police records show that officers have been called out to the complex more than 1,200 times since July 15, 2011.

"It's very dangerous," Gray said. "We're working to take steps, increase patrols and do what we can."

Dominick has been booked into the Galveston County Jail. If he's convicted, he would face up to 20 years in prison.
