Man accused of pointing gun at driver

Dan Luther Williams charged with aggravated assault with deadly weapon

SANTA FE, Texas – A man has been accused of pointing a gun at a driver in a road-rage incident.

Santa Fe police said Lucrecia Lane, 33, told them she was traveling behind a vehicle in a construction area along F.M. 646 about 6 p.m. Sunday. She said the vehicle in front of her was traveling about 30 mph in a 45 mph zone, police said.

Lane admitted she may have been following the driver too closely, officials said.

Detectives said the driver of the vehicle in front of Lane was Dan Luther Williams, 66. He pulled over, got out of his car and pointed a shotgun at Lane, investigators said.

Williams was irate when he told officers that Lane had been following him too closely for more than a mile, police said. He admitted to pulling over and getting out of his car, but he claimed that he pointed a cane, not a shotgun, at Lane, detectives said.

Officers said they searched Williams' car and did find a cane, but they also found a long rifle and two black powder pistols in his car. Williams told police that he picked up the guns in the last 30 minutes.

Williams was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. During the booking procedure, Williams complained about health problems and was taken to a hospital, police said. He was released from custody and a warrant for his arrest is pending.
