Several students fall ill at Cy-Fair ISD elementary school

CYPRESS, Texas – Several students fell ill at Wilson Elementary School in Cypress on Thursday and the Harris County Health Department said it is now investigating the incident.

"We had a small cluster of students who experienced gastrointestinal symptoms today. These students were assessed by the school nurse and parents of symptomatic students were notified," said the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District. "Not all of students who became ill purchased cafeteria food. We will continue to investigate and take all precautionary measures, including deep cleaning the entire campus this evening."

School officials said Wilson administrators and the school nurse will closely monitor students for symptoms and follow criteria set by the Department of State Health Services to protect students' health.

"I just heard that there were some gastrointensinal things going on and possibly that it was from the Thanksgiving dinner," said Robin Ferrata, who told KPRC 2 she was picking up her grandson from school and heard the information from her daughter.

The Harris County Health Department said they are now investigating the incident at Wilson Elementary School and will have a team of food inspectors and epidemiologists working on the case.

The county health department told Channel 2 the state health department will not be notified.
