Man accused of hitting daughter with belt, DA says

Michael Colby charged with injury to child

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A man is accused of injuring his daughter, including hitting her with a belt, the District Attorney's office said.

A 12-year-old girl told her school counselor on Sept. 21 that her father, Michael Colby, 50, hit her with a belt, dragged her from room to room by her hair and grabbed the side of her face, causing pain, the District Attorney's Office said.

Cypress Fairbanks ISD police contacted the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

The District Attorney's office said deputies observed the girl had bruising to the front of her legs and arms, and discoloration to her neck and head.

The girl told an investigator that her father was upset because she had gotten into trouble at school the day before, so when she arrived home from school that day, Colby put his hand around her neck and pushed her to the floor. The District Attorney's office said he then grabbed her by the hair and drug her into the living room, sat on her and struck her with a belt about 14 times.

The girl was taken to Texas Children's Hospital, where she was evaluated.

Colby's attorney did not deny the allegations, but stated Colby caused the injuries while disciplining the girl, who he described as a "problem child," court documents reported.

Colby was charged with injury to a child.
