HOUSTON - A man has been accused of breaking into hotel rooms without having a key.
Houston police said Matthew Allen Cook, 27, used an electronic device that is able to circumvent electronic hotel room locks.
Cook has been accused of stealing laptop computers and jewelry.
Police said it took more than a month to put several cases together and track down Cook.
Detectives said one of the stolen laptops was sold at a pawn shop. Investigators said they got Cook's name from that sale.
Another stolen laptop was sold on Craigslist, investigators said. Police said they used GPS to track that laptop. When they found the laptop, detectives said they discovered that it had a feature that began taking photos when it was hacked. Investigators said those photos were of Cook.
Cook has been arrested and charged with felony theft.
