Houston police said April Boggs, 42, was found dead inside her home in the 200 block of West 18th Street on July 29 after neighbors reported a foul smell coming from the residence.

Boggs' body was found on her kitchen floor, police said.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences determined that Boggs died on July 16. She had been fatally beaten with a baseball bat and sexually assaulted, investigators said.

Police said Boggs' jewelry and car were stolen. The car was later found in Weimar, Texas.

Detectives said their investigation led them to Zavala. Police have not said if Boggs and Zavala knew each other.

Anyone with information regarding Zavala's whereabouts is asked to call the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
