Man accused of attacking Freeport officers while resisting arrest

Suspect was believed to be intoxicated during the incident

FREEPORT, Texas – A man is accused of verbally and physically attacking two Freeport police officers who were trying to arrest him.

Joalbert Barrientes is charged with two counts of assault on a public servant.

Freeport police said they got a call on April 16 about a man calling 911 and making obscene and sexual remarks to dispatchers.

When they arrived, homeowners said Barrientes was visiting and they did not want him there anymore.

Officers tried to arrest Barrientes for public intoxication, when they said he began to resist.

Police said Barrientes punched one officer in the head several times and cut another officer with his nails.

Officers used a Taser to subdue and take Barrientes into custody.
