HOUSTON – The man accused of torching the Gallery Furniture flagship store off the North Freeway in 2009 could now stand trial.
A judge has ruled Robert Gilliam, 73, is competent to stand trial. He has spent the last several years in a mental health facility.

The former Gallery Furniture employee is charged with arson. In 2009 investigators said he set fire to the store because he was angry about being fired. The fire caused $20 million in damages.
More than 120 Houston firefighters fought the blaze in the warehouse at 6006 North Freeway. The flames were extinguished before reachig the store's showroom. Dozens of customers were inside the showroom when the fire started.
