A man was in the hospital in serious condition Saturday morning after accidentally shooting himself in Southeast Houston.

Around 1 a.m. Houston police responded to a shooting at Southville Street and Southbank and found a man shot in the abdomen.

Investigators said the home owner invited the victim to come over. While they were visiting, the two men got into an argument about a girlfriend.

The home owner brought out a gun and told the victim to leave his home. The victim then grabbed onto the gun and hit the home owner on the head with the weapon. During the struggle, the gun went off, shooting the victim in the stomach.

Police said even though both men had their hands on the gun, the victim had his finger on the trigger, so technically he shot himself.

The man was transported to Ben Taub Saturday morning in serious but stable condition.

Police said the case would be referred to the grand jury for any possible charges.
