HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A 25-year-old man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after authorities said he struck a patrol vehicle while a deputy was involved in another traffic stop.

On Friday, a Harris County deputy was conducting an investigation to determine if the driver of a vehicle was intoxicated in the 18600 block of State Highway 249, according to authorities.

While conducting that investigation, a vehicle being driven by Javier Perez struck the deputy's patrol car and left the scene, according to investigators.

The deputy was able to relay Perez's vehicle description to other deputies in the area. Deputies found the vehicle, driven by Perez, in the 5300 block of Hilton View Drive, authorities said.

“When deputies attempted to stop Perez, he put the vehicle in reverse in an attempt to flee and struck a parked vehicle, causing him to stop. Javier Perez was arrested and booked into Harris County Jail, charged with driving while intoxicated,” Constable Mark Herman said.

Perez remains in the Harris County Jail.
