Man, 11-month-old found dead in apartment

KATY, Texas – Three people were shot inside a Katy apartment on Sunday afternoon, and investigators said a man and an 11-month-old baby were dead.

Katy police said the deaths happened at the Pineview Terrace Apartments off of Tallowwood Terrace.

"We got back around 4:30 p.m. Her family was trying to get into her apartment because they weren't answering," neighbor Anna Martinez said.

Detectives said the baby girl's body was found in a swing in one of the rooms. Traveon Marquel Smith, 26, was dead on a bedroom floor next to 31-year-old Misty Eve Ring, investigators said. All three had been shot in the head, police said.

"It appears to be a murder-suicide attempt, but we don't know at this time whether it was the deceased male or the injured female that was the shooter," said Tim Tyler of the Katy Police Department.

Ring was rushed to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.

Detectives said the adults were the baby's parents.

Martinez said the couple argued often.

"She would be the one doing most of the yelling when they would argue," Martinez said. "He would try to calm her down."

Martinez said she didn't want to be nosy, so she never spoke up about the frequent arguments.

"Maybe I should have been that menace of a neighbor and asked what was going on," she said. "Maybe the baby would still be here with us."

Police are working to determine the motive behind the incident.
