Mamie King Chalmers visits Houston to kick off Black History Month

HOUSTON – Mamie King Chalmers, 73, is visiting Houston for two special events spanning the next two days to kick off Black History Month. 

Chalmers is an icon from the Civil Rights Movement. She is the young girl being blasted by fire hoses in Birmingham, Alabama.

The first event took place on on Feb. 4 at Houston Community College, where Chalmers addressed HCC students. 

The second event takes place on Feb. 5 at 11 a.m. at Houston Community College, 5601 West Loop South, Houston, TX, in the auditorium.
