Magnolia High student killed in crash during severe weather

MAGNOLIA, Texas – A Magnolia High School student was killed in a crash Tuesday morning that happened while severe weather was moving through southeast Texas.

The two-vehicle crash was reported about 7:15 a.m. near the intersection of F.M. Road 149 and Jackson Road.

According to authorities, a vehicle being driven by Darian Eckhardt, 18, veered into oncoming traffic and was hit by a tractor-trailer.

Eckhardt died at the scene.

The crash may have been weather-related, authorities said.

Authorities said Eckhardt was a senior at Magnolia High School.

Fellow students said the loss of the teen has sent shock waves throughout campus. Friends described Eckhardt as a very talented student with an amazing singing voice. They said she was also part of the theater program.

Shayla Foster said she still can't believe she is gone.

"Whenever I found out what happened this morning, I had tears in my eyes," Foster said. "It's just really hard on all of us."
