HOUSTON -

A United States Postal Service truck lost its entire load on the Katy Freeway feeder road, causing several lane closures during the morning commute.

The mess snarled traffic in both directions near the intersection of Highway 6 around 6:15 a.m. Thursday.

Workers rushed to pick up every piece of mail that was scattered all over the road. The spilled mail was loaded back onto trucks and taken to the nearby post office.

USPS workers believe the spill was caused when the driver made a left turn on the feeder road. They say the back door was not properly secured and opened, allowing the bins to roll out of the back.

The mail was taken to the Fleetwood post station to be resorted.

Officials said the mail will be back out for delivery later in the day.

At one point, the mail had caused lanes of Highway 6 and the inbound Katy Freeway feeder road to close.

Crews were able to quickly pick up the mail and all lanes reopened by 6:45 a.m.
