Accused copper thief electrocuted

SPRING, Texas – A CenterPoint Energy serviceman discovered the electrocuted body of a man at a power station in Spring on Wednesday.

At around 10:30 p.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and the fire department arrived at a power station in the 25200 block on Interstate 45, just north of Sawdust Road. They said they found Harold Gene Schneider, 37, unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to detectives, Schneider had tools used in copper thefts on and around his body.  There was also copper from the facility near the body, leading investigators to believe that Schneider was in the process of stealing copper when he clipped the wrong wire and was electrocuted.

Detectives said another individual was probably involved in the crime.  They ask anyone with information to contact the sheriff's office or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

No power outages were attributed to the incident.
