3 hospitalized after alleged carjacker leads deputies on chase, then crashes

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas – A brazen carjacker stole a woman's car in broad daylight, then tried to sell it at a used car lot before being spotted by authorities, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

The incident started Wednesday afternoon when deputies say the carjacker, a 54-year-old man, approached a woman in the parking lot of a Walmart in Porter and dragged her out of her vehicle.

The suspect drove off in the small maroon-colored car and tried to sell it at Quality Used Cars in east Montgomery County. The salesperson sensed something was suspicious and called authorities.

The suspect left, but deputies spotted the vehicle and a chase ensued. It ended when the suspect ran a red light, then crashed into a pickup truck on North Park near the Eastex Freeway.

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, one child and an adult were in the pickup truck. Both were taken to a hospital. There's is no word yet on their conditions.

The suspect was also taken to a hospital. He is now being questioned by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

The woman whose car was stolen at the Walmart refused any medical treatment.
