Liberty County drowning victim's body found

Officials: Body found about 100 yards from shore

LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas – The body of a man who drowned in the Trinity River has been found.

Officials said Jacinto Ortiz, 51, was at a family outing at the Trinity River near Highway 105 in Liberty County when he went under Saturday night.

Investigators said people at the scene tried to rescue him, but were unsuccessful.

Officials searched for several hours Saturday on foot, by boat and even by helicopter for the man's body, but came up empty-handed.

On Sunday, officials said dive teams along with Texas EquuSearch joined in the search.

Shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday, officials said divers and searchers on a boat found Ortiz's body under some debris about 100 yards from shore.
