Officers said two people were crossing the street on Airline Drive when a truck headed northbound hit and killed one of the women in the street.

Investigators said the driver of the truck then swerved to avoid hitting the second pedestrian and collided with another truck going south. A female passenger in the southbound vehicle was killed on impact.

The pedestrian and four other people from both vehicles were taken to Ben Taub Hospital, officers said.

The condition of the other passengers and the pedestrian is currently unknown.
